We as the GLBT community need to take the word marriage out of Equality and call it a Civil Union! BECAUSE WE AS GLBT FOLKS ARE USING THE WORD MARRIAGE WE ARE LOSING OUR BATTLE TO OUR MOST DESERVED RIGHTS. This is because the Religious Right is Right...we as people can have the same securities and rights as married couples but it needs to be called CIVIL UNIONS for GLBT folks! Because we as the GLBT commuity lobbied for Marriage and there was a huge push for marriage we are not getting the rights we deserve. I am a Lesbian and I agree that the sanctity of marriage is between a man and a woman. However those who are GLBT in the church including those who want to call it marriage are denying the GLBT Community as a whole Equality Rights, because they want to call it Marriage! That's pretty selfish espescially when not all GLBT People are Christian or Religious in the church sense. That is why the Religous Right is pushing us back because we are calling it marriage instead of Civil Unions! If the wording was changed all in the community might be able to someday have a Civil Union recognized by the state and government.
