I wish to correct Dianthe Castillo's remark that Pit Bulls are being punished 'before the crime is committed'. Dianthe should keep up with the daily news which too often describes yet another vicious Pit Bull attack either on a person or on another animal. How many injuries, deaths, and trauma's must be experienced before this inherently vicious animal is banned? Please, Colleen Hanabusa, listen to your constituency who asked for a ban on Pit Bulls. Do not allow the 'loud minority' to sway you against public safety.
While it's true 'the horses are out of the barn and the gate is being closed', I don't wish to read about another vicious attack by a Pit Bull. I understand some states have already enacted such a ban - it's never too late to save a child or another pet from being killed needlessly. Our legislators have a duty to protect the public. Since so many Pit Bull owners do not abide by leash and confinement laws, our legislators have a duty to protect the general public against an animal that, through decades of breeding, is inherently dangerous to mankind and other animals.
PLEASE PASS A BAN ON PIT BULLS for the sake of innocent children and pet owners. How many lives are yet to be lost before our legislators stand up for the protection of the general public? Laws are made to protect the masses, not the minority. The ban on Pit Bulls is bringing an outcry from the 'loud minority' while the 'silent majority' should speak out for its entitlement to a safe environment, free of fear from another irresponsible Pit Bull owner's neglect.
Thank you for providing a venue for the 'silent majority' to speak. Please protect the general public - it's your job, Colleen, to do so.
Mahalo - a lover of animals AND a lover of life without fear,
Gerri deBeer
